Laser Head Features
The model HN-50G represents the latest design in large Helium Neon lasers. It features a kinematically stable invar internal space frame. The frame supports the 1.7 meter long optical cavity. External long radius mirrors permit the laser to be optimally tuned, should realignment become necessary. With the laser mirrors separated from the plasma tube (the plasma tube is sealed with Brewster angle quartz windows), changing from one wavelength to another is relatively easy. Without removing the laser cover, remove one set of mirrors and install another set. The popular wavelengths are 632.8nm (red), 1.15 micron (NIR) and 3.39 micron (IR). Refer to the specification section for the performance expected at each wavelength. The contemporary laser head design features natural air convection air cooling. Air enters the cavity region at the base of the laser and exits through cooling slots along the full length of the head.. Internal light baffling prevents collateral plasma tube light from exiting the cavity region.

An adjustable exit nose bezel is threaded to receive accessories with a standard 1-32 TPI mating thread. The bezel can be located precisely on the beam axis using a simple alignment feature.

Laser Power Supply
Evolution of the HN-50G power supply started in 1967. The design has been steadily refined since those early days, providing a low noise robust power supply, with excellent dependability. The power features a constant voltage transformer (CVT), with solid-state electronic circuitry for reliable, trouble free operation. Controls include a CDRH specified safety key switch, push button to initiate power, automatic start pulsing, fail-safe circuitry for automatic shutdown in the event of a filament failure. The power is cooled using forced air from an internal “whisper” fan.
