Jodon’s MPH-45 photographic plateholder precisely repositions holographic plates along the X and Y axes after exposure and development. Using the MPH-45, you can make a reference hologram of a metal casting, transducer, or other device in thermal and mechanical equilibrium. You can then develop this reference hologram in the plate carriage, dry it, and reinsert it in the positioning mechanism.

When you null the virtual holographic image and the actual subject image using the X-Y controls on the plateholder, there are no interference fringes across the image. You can then observe the degree of surface deformation as a function of applies load and use the plateholder for time-average and double-exposure holograms. The MPH-45 is also ideal for tests using real time analysis.

This technique, using the MPH-45, is a powerful tool for scientific and for industrial applications such as mechanical engineering design, non-destructive testing, real-time analysis of transducer calibrations, detection of faults in honeycomb or other laminated structures, medical specimen analysis, and vibration analysis.

MPH-45 & MPH-45A SPECIFICATIONS

Plate Size Standard 4 x 5 inch x 1mm thick glass photographic plates. Plate thickness spacing adaptors are available for the plate thickness you are using. (specify if plate thicknesses other than 0.04 inch (1 mm) are to be used). When placing an order for the MPH-45 please specify the plate thickness you are using.

Positioning Mechanism A gravity-held, kinematically stable plate carriage serving two purposes:
1. Provides the necessary precision machined surfaces for plate stability and location accuracy.
2. Holds the plate during the developing process.

Carriage Composition The carriage is made of stainless steel, making it impervious to all photographic processing chemicals, including corrosive bleaches.

Repositioning Accuracy
A micrometer screw spring reduction system provides precise X-Y null control. The zeroth order typically can typically be obtained across the entire reconstruction when proper film processing method is followed.

Mounting Configuration

Standard
Self-supporting 16 lb steel base is standard. The Configuration has a free-standing tri-pedal base to provide stable operation on granite or suitable flat working surfaces.

Optional
Model MPH-45A has an aluminum base and must be mounted directly to the working surfaces.

Dual Realtime Plateholder

Application: Simultaneous real time and time average holography, holographic filter work. Excellent for vibration analysis.
Type: Two real time plateholders separated by a one inch air space. May be used separately or simultaneously.
Usage: Expose plate, remove and process, and replace to exact original position using kinematic plate edge mounting system. Plate return is easy, positive and fast. No adjustment necessary to achieve real-time fringes after developed plate is reinserted.
