This precision interferometrically stable instrument provides the horizontal and vertical beam steering function between a laser and its associated optical elements. It eliminates the need to assemble the the numerous and often unstable front silvered mirrors or prisms frequently required in a beam steering operation.

To insure the inherent stability of the instrument, careful attention has been given to kinematic and engineering principles. The result is a beam steering instrument that can be used to direct the subject and reference beams of a holographic photography system, be placed in the arm of an interferometer system, or to quickly fix a laser beam on a distant target.

Both mirror carriages can be moved independently on the vertical support column and inverted if required. With the base attached, the minimum beam entrance height 2.5 inches, and the maximum beam exit height is 11.0 inches. Minimum separation of the 2 mirrors is 2.0 inches. The vertical support column is also drilled and tapped for a 1/4-20 TPI screw. This permits the column to be mounted directly to an optical bench or laser frame.

All adjustments have a smooth feel and allow small changes in beam deflection to be made easily. The instrument is equipped with high quality enhanced aluminum coated mirrors, with a silicon monoxide protective coating. Optional gold coated mirrors are available for use with CO2 lasers. The useful optical beam aperture is 0.5 inches.

The Jodon Model BA-500A beam steering instrument has been expressly designed to save setup time, and offer greater instrumentation flexibility to those who engaged in holographic photography, optical data processing and interferometric studies.
